Villa E-1027 by Eileen Gray
In April, Tanita—our founder and design director—fulfilled a long-time dream: visiting the villa of one of her design idols, Eileen Gray. Gray built her villa at the age of 50 as a refuge for herself and her friends on the Côte d’Azur, in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. It’s a magical place. The air smells like perfume—blossoming flowers carried by the wind, mixed with the scent of saltwater. Just one of the reasons it must have felt like paradise. Gray was fascinated by technical details and movement. You can see that obsession in the small, clever elements of her furniture. At the same time, she had a love for flat, structured architectural surfaces—playing with light and color. And the turquoise? It’s exactly like the color of the sea in that last, shimmering meter before it touches the coast.
